USLI Rocket Launch --- April 18

If you like model rockets, make your way out to Bragg Farms in Meridianville (1180 Grimwood Rd, Toney, AL 35773) Saturday, April 18, 10am to 5pm.

There will be universities and high school teams there participating in the University Student Launch Initiative (USLI) competition.

The goal of the competition is to build a rocket that will reach an altitude of 1 mile, take scientific data, and survive. The rockets put on a good show when they work right, and a sometimes spectacular show when they don’t…

The UAHuntsville team - “Charger Rocket Works”. Their entry this year is the “Osprey” .

For those interested in it:

The Osprey is made of carbon fiber and stands a little over 8 feet tall.

Onboard are:

· Three flight computers

· GPS

· Multiple accelerometers (3-axis)

· A pitot static probe (for velocity measurement)

· Load cells and strain gauges on the motor casing

· Camera that sends a live feed back to our trailer with GPS coordinate overlay
