Opal Performance this Friday morning (April 24)

Looking for a neat Friday morning field trip? Plenty of seats are still available for the April 24 (yes, this Friday) 9:30am performance of the musical "Opal" at Church of the Performing Arts located at the corner of Johnston St. and 4th Ave. in Decatur.

"Opal" is set in the early 1900's and is based on the life of Opal Whitely, who was born the daughter of a French aristocrat. A much-anticipated voyage to America turns to tragedy and this young girl suddenly finds herself an orphan in an unfamiliar world. Because she speaks very little English, she is put on an "Orphan Train" and sent to the lumber camps of Oregon, where she must adjust to a new life so different from the one she had known.

The roles of Opal and of two narrators are played by homeschoolers. (I hesitate to list their names in a mailing like this.) The role of Mrs. Potter is played by a homeschooling mom.

Tickets for Friday, April 24 9:30am are $5.00 per student. Teachers (mom) are admitted free of charge.
